Let the mortar cure fully before grouting. Most modified thinsets need at least 48 hours before grout goes in, longer in cold or humid conditions. Grouting early over a layer that hasn't cured traps water vapor in the joint, and the result is grout that shrinks, cracks, or discolors unevenly within the first few months even when every layer underneath was installed correctly.
